W.F. Marshall

Belfast Telegraph

Letters

23rd July 2004

Dear Sir,

I recently received, with my copy of the Belfast Telegraph, a brochure for the Maiden City Festival.  The organisers of this Festival are to be commended for their diligence in producing a wide and varied programme of such intellectual and artistic interest.

I note that the Centre for British Studies are again presenting the W.F.Marshall Summer School offering “thirty hours teaching”, which they claim is “accredited by the NIOCN”.

However, the brochure contains, yet again, the inaccurate information concerning the Rev. William Forbes Marshall.  It maintains that he was “Chair of English at Magee”.  The Rev. W.F. Marshall was consecutively Presbyterian minister of Aughnacloy (1913-1916), Sixmilecross (1916-1928) and Castlerock (1928 -1954).  He was NEVER the “Chair of English at Magee”.

I do hope that those giving this “accredited” teaching are more accurate in the content of their teaching than those who produce the brochure.

Yours sincerely,

Rev. Brian Kennaway
