George Best – Role model?
Is he the Best role model for Order?
Reading the article “Famous Red Devil who once wore orange – Football legend Best’s collarette to go on show at Orders new museum” by Nevin Farrell (BT 22 June) left me disturbed on two accounts:
Firstly, is George Best, who was well known for much more than his football skills, really the most appropriate role model for an organisation which claims to be “Christ entered, Bible based and Church grounded”?
Secondly, your correspondent writes that Best – “once wore a black collarette as a member of the Junior Royal Black Institution”. A picture of the collarette is displayed as evidence and it is stated that, “the collerette was kindly donated by the Best family”. May I point out that there is not and never was a “Junior Royal Black Institution”
I do hope that the other exhibits at this important Museum have more authenticity.
